Day 6 - Friday May 2

This was our final day of the festival. It was the day that the Youth Promoter for 2008 would be announced. All the finalists were a little nervous but before they could present their presentation to the jury we would all partake in a Club Development workshop run by Annette Knott. This was followed up with a short presentation by Mario from Mexico and Tina about the FIH Youth Panel. We all signed up for it as we see this as a great opportunity for us to give youth a voice and continue to share our ideas and stay in touch with each other.

Soon it was time to decorate the lecture theatre and before we knew it, it was time for the 6 finalists ( Amy Young - Ireland, Carl Allen – Ireland, Chelsea Yogerst - USA, Cara  Eichenberger – USA, Nina Niedermeyer - Germany and Rebecca Daniels - Wales).

Caswell from South Africa opened the session with his gumboot dance and African warm up. All the finalist then presented and the Jury (Wendy Stewart, Mary Cincinilli, Suzzanne Nicholson, Arjen Meijer, Sue Neill, Tony von Ondarza, Norman Hughes) then had the task of selecting a winner as the 2008 Youth Promoter.

Nina Niedermeyer was announced as the winner. Congratulations Nina!

After the presentations we all headed to a BBQ with our host parents. We had a lovely meal with all the of the group and our host parents. We had the opportunity to share with them some of the things that we did during the week including some of the national dances that the different promoters introduced us to.

We had a great evening and it was a great end to the festival. Thanks to all the staff for all the hard work that they did to give us this opportunity and the host families for looking after us for the week. We really enjoyed it and hope that these festivals will continue in the future as they are such a valuable experience. We will miss everyone and hope we can all go back to our NA’s and clubs and continue to develop hockey and create greater awareness and GIVE YOUTH A VOICE!
